Tom Hams Lighthouse Wedding California Room 1

Of all the San Diego wedding DJs around, Mary & Ryan chose me to DJ and MC their Tom Ham’s Lighthouse wedding on December 19, 2015. So honored!

THE LOVE STORY

Mary & Ryan met when they were 7 years old and snuck off at a birthday party when they were 10 or 11 to share their first kiss. But life isn’t always a bed of roses and by high school they weren’t even on speaking terms. Alas, a wedding a few years later brought them back into each others’ lives…and they started dating again, now as adults.

On August 16, 2014, also known as Mary’s 28th birthday, Ryan found himself down on one knee at Extraordinary Desserts on Balboa Avenue here in San Diego. A small box that Mary had expected to be computer memory turned out to be a set of ring sizers. She thought, “Oh, this will be great for crafts.” But, then, Ryan surprised her with an engagement ring…and Mary’s shock started to set in. Witnesses say it took a full 15 minutes for her to come back down to Earth—well done, Ryan!

THE CEREMONY

Mary & Ryan were married at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church in San Marcos, so I was not on hand for the ceremony unfortunately.

THE TOM HAM’S LIGHTHOUSE WEDDING RECEPTION

Wow…just wow. So yea, you know the deal, cocktails, Grand Entrance, light saber fight that we secretly planned mid-way through the First Dance, all the “normal” stuff. Then there was the Longest Married Couple Dance, the Money Dance (to YMCA and The Twist!!!), the Shoe Game, the spontaneous throwing of the groom into the air for no reason, the 4 Non-Blondes sing-along, the Top Gun “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin” bit, holy sh*t even “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” theme song! Phew!

I’m exhausted just remembering the roof-raisin’ that went on at this Tom Ham’s Lighthouse wedding. See for yourself in the video here (oh, yes, there’s a strip tease to Ginuwine’s “Pony” too).

THE PLAYLIST

In a nutshell: video game and anime music. For the cocktail hour, the bride and groom requested Yasunori Mitsuda, Tenmon, Yuki Kajiura, Natsumi Kameoka, and Nobuo Uematsu. For dinner, their playlist consisted of Clara C, Jason Mraz, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, & the Post Modern Jukebox. Must have slow song? “Mario Kart Love Song” by Sam Hart.

Again, I was honored to be the one and only San Diego wedding DJ Mary & Ryan trusted with their big day. Thank you! See more at #ryanheartsmary.
