Lake Henshaw Wedding 1

Of all the San Diego wedding DJs in the county, Ariel and Bryan chose me to DJ and MC their Lake Henshaw wedding on October 10, 2015. Ariel and Bryan had friends who care take some property on Lake Henshaw in Santa Ysabel. They told me they believed that theirs was the second Lake Henshaw wedding ever! Exciting!

THE NOTEBOOK

Why “The Notebook”? Mostly because the wedding was on a lovely lake reminiscent of when Noah rowed Allie on his boat in the rain storm…and because Ariel thinks Bryan looks a lot like Ryan Gosling (I concur!)

THE LOVE STORY

It all began in December 2013 as Bryan choked down some Thai food that was way out of his comfort zone in an effort to woo Ariel. Then, in early July 2014, Bryan planned to propose to Ariel on the ferris wheel at the Del Mar Fairgrounds…but the ring wasn’t ready. So Plan B was formed—a Horn Blower cruise…but the boat was already booked. Plan C was a 5-star restaurant on the water…but it looked nasty when they arrived. Plan D was to propose on the pier near Belmont Park…but it was closed. Sigh! Finally, two weeks from the original proposal date, on July 13, 2014, Ariel + Bryan were laying in a patch of grass near the Dana on Mission Bay looking up at the moon. Ariel stood up + was brushing the grass off her. She looked down + saw Bryan down on one knee with a ring!

THE LAKE HENSHAW WEDDING CEREMONY

The groom entered to Train’s “Marry Me.” The bride made her entrance to the Brothers Osbourne’s “Stay a Little Longer.” After a lovely ceremony with a light breeze, the newlyweds walked back down the aisle to Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance.” During the cocktail hour, I provided a Polaroid guestbook station…always a ton of fun!

THE LAKE HENSHAW WEDDING RECEPTION

This low-key Lake Henshaw wedding was simple and casual. Dinner was a taco bar. The guests stood during the lakeside ceremony. The First Dance was Lee Brice’s popular “I Don’t Dance.” During the personalized Grand Entrance, we learned which one of the wedding party would “not only call you an idiot but act like one with you” as well as who would “be ready with a shovel if anyone made Ariel cry.” The first slice of wedding cake was presented to the bride’s grandfather, Don Martin.

THE PLAYLIST

For the cocktail hour, the bride and groom requested Hozier, Daft Punk, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. For dinner, their playlist consisted of Slightly Stoopid, Miranda Lambert, Biggie Smalls, Stevie Nicks, and Luke Bryan.

Again, I was honored to be the one and only San Diego wedding DJ Ariel & Bryan’s trusted with their big day. Thank you! Learn more at #notebookwedding2015. See the video here.
