Bilingual Leo Carrillo Ranch Wedding 1

On September 6, 2014, a bespectacled Blanca & Cameron (aka “Camaron”) tied the knot. This Leo Carrillo Ranch wedding was bilingual & inter-cultural….AND off-the-hook!

IN NEED OF A BILINGUAL SAN DIEGO WEDDING DJ

I met them over a year ago–they were looking for a bilingual DJ who could understand the nuances of both English & Spanish music without alienating one group or the other. And, as it turned out, they needed someone who could throw down some 90s gangsta rap too…and appreciate the humor in the fact that Blanca’s family pronounced the groom’s name “Cameron” like “camaron” (the Spanish word for shrimp…and, ironically, the topic of a very popular Spanish par-tay song “Camaron Pelao,” which I had a little fun with during open dancing–see the video here).

LET’S GET THE PARTY STARTED!

After getting married in a brief, modern-ish Catholic ceremony nearby, Blanca & Cameron were ready to kick off their Leo Carrillo Ranch wedding reception. They chose all-new, soft pop (“Stay with Me” by Sam Smith, “Latch” by Disclosure, etc.) mixed with soft romanticas, Spanish pop, & bachata/boleros for the cocktail & dinner music. Guests signed the mailbox instead of the guest book. Flowers were displayed in bird cages rather than vases. But I really knew Blanca & Cameron were ready for a good time when they told me the song for their Grand Entrance….“Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj!

LA CENA!

After the live keyboard version of Beyonce’s “Blue” for the First Dance, Padrina Lupe blessed the food & we grubbed on some delicious Mexican dishes. Two of the five toasts were given bilingually–the other 3 were translated by me from English to Spanish & from Spanish to English. The bride then danced with her Dad to Lali Torres’ “Papa Quiero Decirte.” The groom danced with his Mom to Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me.” Then the bride danced with her Mom to the Spanish version of “Butterfly Kisses” by Miguel Guerra. The Dollar Dance was the last thing on the list before open dancing, and with the help of appointed “Dollar Dance Monitor” Jose, we finished in just three songs! The cake started to L E A N and D R O O P about that time, so we cut it ahead of schedule to Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake.” (It was still yummy though!)

LET THE LEO CARRILLO RANCH WEDDING DANCE-A-THON BEGIN

The four hour dance-a-thon that emerged after the reception’s formalities went everywhere–yes–everywhere. Banda, Michael Jackson, Nortenas, DJ Tiesto, Two Chains, re-enacting “Gangnam Style,” Sonora Dinamita, “Me Vale” by Mana, doin’ the Dougie…and the “Payaso de Rodeo,” the bride twerking up on her groom. I introduced the crowd to La Fuga” by Jiggy Drama & Loca People” by Sak Noel (VIVA LOS DJs!!!)…and they couldn’t get enough 90s gangsta rap…Biggy, Snoop, Dre, Cypress Hill. I had a blast playing some stuff I don’t often get a chance to take out of my tool box as a wedding DJ 🙂

And…I’m proud to say with all that party energy going hard for 4 long hours…I never once went over Leo Carillo Ranch’s “55 decibel” limit–YEA!
