LA JOLLA WEDDING VENUE #1 – SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

I DJed Tom & Wei-Li’s equally-as-contemporary wedding here last year. While you are pretty close to the waterfront, you really don’t get to absorb much waterfront energy here (if that’s what you are looking for). The lay-out in the museum lobby was a little tricky to navigate with the large posts throughout the space (totally not a deal breaker). Tom & Wei-Li opted to have their cocktail hour out on the back veranda to enjoy a bit of the ocean view at sunset, but nobody really went out there (it was February & cold) because they were walking through the museum exhibits instead. This venue I’m guessing does not hold crowds larger than 120 people very comfortably. Street parking only. Overall, I enjoyed the space, and I think Tom & Wei-Li (and guests) did as well.

LA JOLLA WEDDING VENUE #2 – BIRCH AQUARIUM

If you like the museum vibe for your La Jolla wedding but need a bit of the waterfront flavor…definitely consider Birch Aquarium (they have a view AND a parking lot). I DJed Annie & Alex’ wedding here last summer (and it was published in the San Diego U-T). Yes, we still had to navigate posts in the museum lobby, but no biggie. I think the brides were pretty happy with the layout we chose–it was very conducive to dancing, and I had great visibility. The guests enjoyed the aquarium exhibits as well, and Annie & Alex got some very rad photos with sharks swimming behind them and so on (well, their photographer was one of the best I’ve ever worked with–hands down). My only “con” at this venue was that some of the rules were pretty strict, and there wasn’t much set-up time for the vendors–this, however, should not effect bridal bliss on the big day.

La Jolla Wedding Venue - Cove Bridge Club

LA JOLLA WEDDING VENUE #3 – LA JOLLA COVE BRIDGE CLUB

I’ve had the pleasure of DJing at this very affordable La Jolla wedding venue twice–the first time for Jillian & Benji’s No-Dance Wedding and the second time for Wei-Li & Tom’s Pre-Wedding Fiesta. If you want waterfront, this venue will put you the closest (however that does mean a lot of random strangers walking around your wedding). Again, only street parking…also limited to probably about 100-120 guests with this space. Technically, no music is allowed outside (just ceremony only), so for both events, I set-up by the doorway and had a speaker right in the doorway. I believe there is also a fairly early curfew here, but–for the incredible price–it is definitely do-able. This venue appears on my list of affordable San Diego wedding venues under $3,000 btw.

For Wei-Li & Tom’s event, guests were seated outside on the lawn for dinner then danced inside. For Jillian & Benji’s event, dinner was inside then lawn games and post-dinner cocktails were out on the lawn with some louder, toe-tapping music. I liked both set-ups. It does get chilly out on the lawn in the evening pretty much any time of year because you are so close to the water…something to consider.

La Jolla Wedding Venues - La Valencia Hotel

LA JOLLA WEDDING VENUE #4 – LA VALENCIA HOTEL

I DJed Jessie & Rob’s roof-raisin’ rager here a few years ago. I’m going to level with you…parking was a serious bee-otch here, BUT the food is crazy amazing, the staff was awesome, and you get some of that waterfront flavor. The hotel has a dedicated outdoor ceremony spot, which is awesome. I’m guessing max crowd size is also around 120…maybe up to 140?!

La Jolla Wedding Venues - Womens Club 2

LA JOLLA WEDDING VENUE #5 – LA JOLLA WOMEN’S CLUB

If you need a La Jolla wedding venue for more than 120 people, this is going to be your best choice. I DJed Erin & Pete’s whimsical wedding here a few years ago. There are a lot of set-up options here as the venue has a sun room, a side patio, a stage, and a front lawn. The wood floor is great for dancing. Of all the La Jolla wedding venues listed, this is the only one with a dedicated bridal suite for getting ready (although at a hotel, you can always prep in one of the hotel rooms, of course). Parking is a tiny bit better here since the venue is off the 2 main drags.
